Oh my, I think we have found a fony...I know I know, I am a "hater" and "jerk"but one thing I know is that the national area code of Beijing, China is 010, and I would like to hear if Dr. Ming has met the EP over there Ms Simons and Harrington, becuase the Dr.Ming I know, seeing that I work for NBC Olympics in 30 Rock is that a Dr. Ming is a Theologist...I really hope this was not a false post, it would be very very unfortunate
07AUG BEIJING CHINA...My name is Dr. Sam Mings - I am the Chaplain to the Olympians & here preparing to be with President Bush at US Embassy dedication...I've just come across Nick Williams audition video..Being familiar with Sports Personalities as NBC Sports Lewis Johnson doing the Olympic Interviews is on my Board of Directors... I was taken with this young man's charismatic - action packed audition. He is certainly captivating and it is very apparent his success is assured. Being a Texas an caught y eye..And the helmet moving was great - but most difficlt for announcers...ie sports personalities is the lack of ability with the spanish language. This young man was simply super! i him up...Please feel free to contact me..g.o Longhorns!
My phone number in Beijing is 1314-634-0449 if you would like to contac me.
It's nice to see someone who's knows what they're talking about! I can't believe this is ad-libbed! Great job Nick on the enthusiasm and charisma! You brought excitement to a sports cast, which I normally find to be quite boring. Great job! You're definitely a must have in this industry!!
Love the enthusiasm! This is SPORTS, so you gotta get pumped! Gotta show excitement! Gotta show passion! He's got it covered! Loved the touches on golf, baseball, boxing, fantasy football! With the Olympics coming up...there's NO time to spare! Hire this kid!
Thanks for the comments guys, Legend you are right in the aspect of the set. I don't know much about studios and lighting but I'll get better, and also for the mentions of corner shots and product lettering - did not know that.
This was tough to do because it was all ad-libbed. I had a generic plan on what topics I wanted to bring up, but that's about it. I understand this video has an amateur feel to it, but that's just me and my lack of camera experience. Hey, atleast there's a lot of room for improvement!
I appreciate all the comments, the good and the bad. Any suggestions helps too. Thanks again!
Legend: Your're talking about shooting, editing, delivering. Nick is delivering with the best of them. The shooting and editing can be there when he needs them. They are skills that can be hired or learned if necessary, but I think this Anchor position needs charisma and youth which he has. Dark Shadow: Excitement, freshness, newness are right on the $. You guys......Keep up the good work!!!!!!!
LEGEND(pretty cocky name), you need to read the fine print, Cleetus, i never said i knew anything about sports, just liked what i heard and if this dude's excitement about different sports can get me into other sports i don't watch, then doesn't that say something?? and in speaking of fine print, the job requirements are not criteria that need to be portrayed in the AUDITION TAPE. maybe they realize that since they want someone FRESH and NEW that they may not have access to the proper equipment to make this vdo professional. kudos, to Nick for selling himself on personality and knowing what he's talking about. BUT since YOU know so much, maybe you can help him shoot another clip. holla!
darkshadow- though you think you know something about sports and the reporting of it, you obviously do not. I would think the creators of this sight (like it says in the instructions) can shoot, edit and deliver. There is not shooting or editing here and the information that is received can be heard on sportscenter. But hey, you seem like a pro at this, maybe you should give it a shot This is not a bad amateur video, but amateur none the less.
THE LEGEND! although you are entitled to your opinion, i think you're missing the point of this AUDITION TAPE. Nick's not trying to be a director, he's trying to be a reporter, so i think the peeps judging this could care less if he shot it in the corner.thinking they already have someone hired for that. this homeboy just needs to flash that million dollar smile and do what he's good at. giving us the goods on sports!! ya, pompous jackass.
Good advice legend. Good voice inflection. A few props help I think given the topic. One of my main interests is Big 12 and Pac 10 f ball so .....Wheaties and L. Horn paraphenalia don't hurt. The "Bozo" wasn't a bad touch either. WE all have to at least try to be legends in our own minds if not yours.
first, don't ever shoot in corners, it condenses the shot. theres too much head room, we don't need to see the rest of the set. the box ain't bad but it distracts the viewer because of the lettering. Sounds like you watched ESPN and regergetated what you heard- not bad but needs a lot of work
Joaquin 16!!! You said it. Give hims some current mad thrills, ala ppv boxing, fantasy ball, ncaa fb,bball etc and you find some heavy meat on the table!!!
SOONER BORN? wHAT KIND OF A HANDLE IS THAT? I'D SOONER B FROM TX IF I HAD NOT BEEN BORN INTHE GREAT NW. BUT I DO LIKE BARRY SWITZER. THIS NICK HAS PO AND THAT RHYMES WITH BO AND I MEAN TENTIAL, AS IN THAT'S EVIDENTIAL;... TO YOU NON RHYMING, SPORT SKILL UN APPRECIATING, DUST BLOWING POOR FOLK.
Not bad...like the golf reference...rather see this guy on tv than wondering if Stu Scott is looking at me with his crazy eye or at some camera man offset. Throw in a "boom goes the dynamite" and this guy is gold!
I like this guy. He seems to get pumped up to talk about sports. Kinda reminds me of a young version of Berman. I dont know about the random bodies poping up out of no were. This guy could make great plays as a sports broadcaster. Hopefully hes not going to waste doing tv write ups and eating banana's or something.
hell yes!! finally someone who knows their stuff. looks good, sounds good, nice enthusiasm, i like his style. busting out the boxing and british open knowledge. don't get this guy near popular sports like football or basketball, i bet he'd tear it up.
I love this guy's comments and enthusiasm, he sounds like he knows sports and has a youthful energetic delivery, the fact that he talks about golf and boxing is outstanding. Great job!
Someone told me this was impromptu without a script. I'm impressed. The golf references to Duval and Villegas and the obvious Norman were right on the $. Of course in Tx. you have to give the Rangers their due and he did! Yankees, we don't need no stinking badges( alias Yanks!) Boxing, from Ali to Cotto!
I think this is your man for the Sports Anchor Job!
